Question: 1
Describe the categories of the enzymes .
Answer: 1
1-6
Enzymes can be categorized on the basis of the site where they work
a: Intracellular
b: Extracellular
a: Intracellular enzymes : The type of enzymes which working inside of the cytoplasm
Example : Enzymes of Glycolysis
Question: 2
Explain characteristics if enzymes .
Answer: 2
2-6
In 1878 , German physiologist Winhelm Kuhne first used the term enzyme . Enzyme possess the following major characteristics
-Enzymes are globular proteins
-Like all proteins , enzymes are made of long ,linear chains of amino acids that fold to produce a three -dimensional molecule
-Most enzyme reaction rates are million of times faster than those of comparable uncatalyzed reaction
Question: 3
Write industrial uses of enzymes .
Answer: 3
3-6
Uses of enzymes : Enzymes are extensively used in different industries for fast chemical reaction

Food industry : Enzymes that break starch into simple sugars are used in the production of white bread ,buns etc (Amylase)
Brewing Industry : Enzymes break starch to lower its viscosity that aids in making paper

Question: 4
Which factors effect the rate of enzyme action ?
Answer: 4
4-6
Enzymes are very sensitive biomolecule to the environment in which they work . Any factor which can alter the chemistry and shape of the enzyme , affects the activity of the enzymes . Some of these factors which affect the rate of enzyme action are described below :

1: Temperature
2: Substrate concentration
3:pH

Question: 5
Explain mechanism of enzyme action
Answer: 5
5-6
Mechanism of enzyme action : When enzyme attaches with substrate , a temporary enzymes substrate (ES) complex is formed . Enzymes catalyzes the reaction and substrate is transformed into product . After it the ES complex breaks and enzymes and produce are released . There are following models which explain mechanism of enzyme action

E+ S ES complex↦E+P

Question: 6
What is specificity of enzymes ?
Answer: 6
6-6
There are 2000 enzymes are known and each of them is specialized to carry out one specific reaction . Enzymes are also substrate specific

Example :
-The protease enzyme (which catalyze the breakdown of peptide bonds in protein )will not work on any other molecules such as starch
-Amylase enzyme breakdown starch
- This specificity of different enzymes is determined by the shapes of their active sites
The active sites possess some specific geometric shapes that fit with the specific substrate only
