Government To Reopen The Educational Institutes In Phases From 18th January
The federal government has announced the phase-wise reopening schedule of the educational institutes across the country. Previously it was declared that the schools, universities, and colleges will remain closed till 10th January due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The provincial education ministers conference (IPEMC) was held on 4th January to review the situation of the COVID-19 in the country. The federal education minister, Shafqat Mahmood has made the announcement to reopen the institutes after the discussion with the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan.
Reopening Schedule of Institutes
According to the decisions of the government of Pakistan, on the 18th January 2021, the students from 9th to 12th classes will resume academic activities. Although the physical classes till the primary level (1-8th grade) will be allowed to recommence from 25th January 2021. From the 1st February, all the universities and the higher educational institutes will be allowed to resume their classes. The minister has also said that after the winter vacations, the teachers as well as the administrative staff have to rejoin the educational institutes to start the online classes.
Delay in Board Exams
Shafqat Mahmood stated that the annual board exams scheduled in the month of March and April have been delayed. According to the new schedule the exams will be held in May or June. This step has been taken to facilitate the students by providing them some more time so that they can prepare for the annual exams. Due to the shutdown, the academic and the examination activities have been disrupted so in order to make up with the coursework lapsed, the students are advised to use the time properly and focus on their studies.
Review Session
The decision regarding the reopening of the educational institutes has been taken by considering the opinions of the education ministers of all the provinces. Shafqat Mahmood said that the health of the children is the topmost priority. He further added that the review session will be again held on the 14-15th January 2021 to monitor the COVID-19 situation before the reopening of schools, universities, and colleges of Pakistan.
