HEC Warns Students To Not Take Admission in Unauthorized 2 Year Degree Programs

The higher education commission has warned the students to not take admission in the unauthorized 2 years BA/BSc and MA/MSc degree programs. It has been said that the commission will not recognize such degrees as they have been abolished due to quality concerns so the candidates are advised not to waste their time by enrolling in the unauthorized degree programs. Despite the announcement of the HEC, many universities have been offering admission to the unauthorized BA/BSc and MA/MSc programs but it is pertinent to mention here that after the completion of such degrees the students will not be able to apply for the jobs or get further education. By offering these degree programs the universities are putting the future of the students at stake.

Abolishment of 2 Year Degree Programs

Earlier in 2004, it was decided to phase out the BA/BSc and MA/MSc programs, and authorities replaced it with a single four-year BS degree but the universities were permitted to continue offering admission in both the systems. In 2016 the final decision was made to stop the admissions in 2 year BA/BSc degree program on 31st December 2018 and MA/MSc degree program on 31st December 2021. The higher education commission added that due to the coronavirus the flexibility was granted but now the decision has been finalized. The universities have been provided additional three months to conclude the exams of BA/BSc.

Admission in Associate Program

The candidates holding the BA/BSc degree are allowed to take admission in the 5th semester of the BS program and are also required to fulfill the additional course requirements mentioned by the university. However, the fresh candidates can be admitted directly to the associate degree offered by the recognized institutes, universities, and colleges of Pakistan. In the case of taking admission in the phase-out degree programs, the candidates will end up bearing all the risks. The HEC will not recognize the BA/BSc degree issued after 31st December 20218 and MA/MSc programs issued after 31st March 2021.
