HEC Warns The Students To Not Take Admission in Unauthorized 2-Year BA/BSc and MA/MSc Programs

The higher education commission has warned the students to not take admission in the unauthorized 2-Year BA/BSc and MA/MSc Programs. The announcement has been made on the official Twitter account so that the candidates can be informed about the decision taken by the authorities. The HEC has advised the candidates to not waste their time by enrolling in the unauthorized degree programs as these programs have been phased out due to quality concerns. Some universities have announced admission in these degree programs besides the decision of the commission but it is noteworthy for the candidates by taking admission in the 2-Year BA/BSc and MA/MSc Programs they will not be able to get the job after the completion of the degree.

The Decision of HEC

The decision to phase out the 2-Year BA/BSc and MA/MSc Programs was taken in 2004 however the universities were allowed to offer the admissions in the transition period. In 2011 the associate degree was announced as an alternative to BA/BSc degree. AD is equal to 14 years of schooling and allows graduates to get admission in the 5th semester of the respective BS programs after fulfilling the mentioned requirements of the university. In 2016 the transition period was concluded and the commission had decided to abolish the 2-Year BA/BSc and MA/MSc Programs on 31st December 2018 and 31st December 2020 respectively.

Flexibility Provided By Commission

Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the higher education commission had provided flexibility in the decision taken earlier by the authorities. The universities and colleges of Pakistan were given the grace period to complete the BA/BSc exams before 31st March 2021. Similarly, the deadline to take admission in the MA/MSc programs was extended till 31st March 2021. In addition, the BA/BSc degree holders were allowed to get enrolled in the 5th semester of the BS programs. The fresh students can be admitted to the 4-year degree program offered through the recognized educational institutes. So the students must take the admission according to the instructions provided by the higher education commission as the phased-out degree programs will not be considered by the commission in any case.
