Pakistan Medical Commission Increases Seats For Medical Colleges In Punjab

Pakistan medical commission has increased 240 seats for medical colleges in Punjab. It has been announced that 10% seat enhancement has been granted to the 13 public colleges and 20% enhancement to the two colleges due to some exceptional reasons. So across the total 15 medical colleges in Punjab quota seats have been enhanced but the decision is applicable only in the colleges of the province. However, no request has been made by the other provinces and Azad & Jammu Kashmir within the due date of 29th January 2021. The decision will be applicable for the academic session 2021. 

In this regard, the meeting was held in which the representatives of the federal government, members of the higher education commission, and the ministers of all the provinces including AJ&K participated. Earlier the requests were made by the standing committees of the senate and national assembly regarding the quota seats for the FATA and Balochistan medical and dental college’s applicants. In the meeting it had been agreed upon that the PMC will not allow the admission on over and above seats and the provincial government may apply for the enhancement of the seats to regularize the past over as well as the above quota seats. But it is pertinent to mention here that the seats should not exceed 10% of the existing allocated seats and for the exceptional cases, 20% seats will be allowed depending upon the admission capacity of the medical and dental colleges.

The approval of the requests about the seats would be subject to the inspection reports of the medical and dental colleges of the academic year 2019. After the comprehensive inspection of the respective medical college within six months, the PMC will grant permission. The policy will be only applicable to the public colleges and moreover, it is essential for the medical college to provide all the necessary facilities to the students accommodate on the enhanced seats.
